A tribute to Professor Man Fong Mei: A pioneer in Chinese medicine and East-West integration
08/3/2014
On Saturday 1 February 2014 the Directors of Global Regulatory Services (GRS), Bobby and Greer Deal, joined the Mei family to honour and celebrate “Benny’s” life and also to welcome in the year of the Green Wooden Horse.
The tribute started with a speech by Don Mei in honour of his father and was followed by a traditional Chinese lion dance, Chinese food and music.
Bobby and Greer are immensely proud to have met Professor Mei and to have had the opportunity to share some Chinese tea with him at AcuMedic Limited based in Camden.
Professor Mei invented the world’s first disposable traditional acupuncture needle which revolutionised Chinese Medicine. He then went on to design amongst the first micro-processor electro-acupuncture and TENS apparatuses that further changed the face of Chinese Medicine. He continued his efforts to modernise Chinese medicine and managed to successfully encapsulate common Chinese medicine formulas.
He was passionate about modernising and integrating Chinese medicine in the West. To this end he was involved in the MHRA consultation on the European Directive for Traditional Herbal Medicines, was appointed by the UK Department of Health as a member of the Joint Regulatory Working Group on CAM, and was an active member of the Chinese Medicine Regulatory Working Group.
“We are very much saddened by this news and offer our deepest condolences to Don Mei and the Mei family” says Bobby Deal, “Professor Man Fong Mei leaves behind the most incredible legacy and now it is up to the rest of us to carry on with his amazing works and achievements. We are sure that Don will also be an inspiration and his father will be forever proud of him.”
