Europe: Classification, packaging and labelling of nanomaterials

The rapid growth in the exploitation of nanotechnology and gaps in knowledge about the health and safety of nanomaterials has lead to growing concern over the past few years, and increasing calls for legislation to control them.
Reviews of current safety legislation, such as that by the European Commission on the application of REACH and CLP Regulations to nanomaterials, suggest that in principle, current legislation should cover the potential health, safety and environmental risks in relation to nanomaterials.
