GSK invests in UK manufacturing - is this the start of a brighter future?

24/3/2012

So Wednesday's UK budget has resulted in GSK committing to invest in UK manufacturing.  Do you think this will turn the tide?  Will the "great" be put back into "Great Britain"?  I suppose only time will tell.

In the meantime, it's interesting that Mary Portas is currently featuring on our TVs with her series "Bottom Line" which is all about knickers.  So why is this so interesting?  Because, Mary is another passionate individual who wants to bring manufacturing back to Britain.  But not just a part of it: no she has sourced and manufactured everything from Britain in order to make her line of knickers in Britain for British women.  'Cheap' is not the objective but 'quality' is.

So may be this is what it is all about: Britain can make quality products for the global market whether it be pharmaceuticals, knickers or something else.  With incentives from the UK Government, it looks like Britain may well have a good chance to turn things around.
