UK Department of Health (DoH) and implied health claims

01/3/2012

The UK Department of Health has indicated nutrition-style claims like ‘contains glucosamine’ or ‘contains probiotics’ will be deemed implied health claims if they are the subject of negative EFSA opinions.

Instead of harmonising health claims in Europe it appears to be even more fragmented and confusing.  The likes of Danone are particularly worried as they fear that the "probiotics category could disappear".

As is often the case with regulations, everything will be considered on a case-by-case basis.  Doesn't seem very harmonised does it?
