UK: Labelling and packaging of medicines: Quick Response (QR) codes

29/9/2011

The MHRA has published new guidance on the inclusion of QR codes on labelling and patient information leaflets. The inclusion of QR codes is permitted under Article 62 of Council Directive 2001/83/EC.

QR codes are not statutory but provide a useful way of linking to additional patient support materials. If an applicant intends to use a QR code on labelling or in a patient information leaflet, they must make an application to the Patient Information Quality Unit in the normal way.
