US: Cannabis and cancer treatment

02/5/2012

This article demonstrates not only the traditional use of cannabis as a medicine (especially in China, India and the Middle East) but also that cannabis might finally be throwing of its image of being a 'recreational' drug which does nothing but harm.

At GRS we are very aware of the potentially powerful medicinal properties of cannabis having worked with companies and individuals researching into its health and curative properties.  We also have the advantage of GW Pharma being located just outside Cambridge who have successfully registered their cannabis product Sativex for the treatment of spasticity due to multiple sclerosis (Sativex is now licensed in the UK, Spain, Germany, Denmark, New Zealand and Canada).

What is particularly interesting is that this article refers to a US based company and the US is a notariously difficult market for such products because companies have to approach the Drugs Enforcement Agency as well as the US FDA.

Hopefully, from now on, cannabis will be seen in a better light ... time will tell.
